Clovis Police Respond to Vehicle Versus Pedestrian Accident

About 8:45PM last night, Clovis Police responded to a call of a vehicle versus a pedestrian near The Olive Garden (Shaw west of Clovis Ave). The driver of a Toyota Prius was driving westbound and hit a pedestrian who failed to yield the right of way as he crossed the street while not in a crosswalk. The Prius hit the 64-year-old and the pedestrian’s head hit the windshield. Clovis Firefighters administered medical treatment and assisted the pedestrian with breathing by use of a bag until EMS arrived. The pedestrian was taken to Community Medical Center for treatment. Neither the driver nor the pedestrian appeared to be under the influence when the accident happened.

The driver of the Prius remained at the scene as the Collision Reconstruction Unit officers took measurements and photographs to document the incident. The Prius driver consented to a blood draw. Officers say he did NOT exhibit symptoms of being under the influence. His vehicle was towed for evidence and his wife picked him up and drove him home. This incident is still under investigation.
