Clovis General Plan Update Process ...building on the legacy...

The City of Clovis has started work on a new General Plan document for the Clovis Community. A General Plan is the master policy document that affects all aspects of the community and especially future land use such as where stores, business and house go as the community changes and grows. The General Plan will also have important things to say about the existing Clovis Community and is the foundation upon which most of the future municipal decisions the city makes will be based on in the future.
The Clovis General Plan encompasses approximately 48,000 acres, which contain the City of Clovis, its 2000 Sphere of Influence, and adjacent lands within unincorporated Fresno County. The project area is generally bounded by Copper Avenue to the north, Academy Avenue to the east, Dakota Avenue and the Gould Canal to the south, and Willow Avenue to the west.
California State law requires each city and county to have an adopted general plan that serves as the blueprint for future growth and development. The General Plan update will build on the urban center concepts of the existing 1993 General Plan which depicts a variety of urban, suburban, and open space uses. The update is expected to include additional programs, policies, and standards to balance emerging environmental issues such as water supply, air quality, greenhouse gas emissions, and sustainable development with providing a high level of urban services and supporting a vibrant economy.
The General Plan update process is expected to take 24-36 months and will include the preparation of an Environmental Impact Report.
