Who hasn't driven through the intersection of Shepherd and Minnewawa Avenues and noticed the beautiful brick arch located on the northwest corner? What many people don't realize is that the arch was once the front entrance to Garfield School, one of Clovis first primary schools. After the school was abandoned, it sat vacant for many years, and in the 1990s, it was destroyed by an arsonist's fire. The only thing that remains is the arch.
Congratulations to Heather Custer, along with her children and several of their classmates, for organizing and recreating this wonderful Pop Laval photo of the students of the original Garfield School.
Terrific job Heather! Thank you for this submission. Be sure to thank all of the kids who posed for this picture too.
